Abstract

This study discusses the development of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) security community in the armed conflict between Thailand and Cambodia in 2008-2011. The dynamics of the interaction between the two countries and ASEAN's response to the conflict has an important role to assess why the conflict can be occured in the middle of ASEAN's efforts to form a more mature security community. By using the constructivist approach, this study focuses on the norms and identity. In addition, this study also analyzes three factors causing the conflict, namely the organization, transactions, and social learning. These three factors are important because they determine the growth and decline of ASEAN in the future.
